Welcome to the Farm Animal Coalition

The Farm Animal Coalition (FAC) is a member-driven working group within AfA that comprises various member organizations, engaged in advocacy for animals farmed as food in Asia and beyond. Our members are dedicated to addressing farmed animal welfare concerns, advocating for plant-based alternatives, and raising awareness about the environmental impact of intensive farming practices.

FAC empowers organizations to achieve greater victories for farmed animals. By uniting groups across the region, amplifying their voices, and providing the resources they need to succeed, we turn individual efforts into a powerful collective force.

Together, we are building a stronger, more coordinated movement that delivers lasting improvements in the lives of animals and accelerates progress toward a more compassionate future.

Some of the species here receive more attention than others. However, largely, all species are seen as commodities to serve humans rather than sentient beings. Asia's Alternative Protein Landscape 2026

This report draws on an original survey of twelve NGOs across thirteen countries, conducted between February and March 2025, mapping the sector along four dimensions: public awareness and consumer education, cultural and economic dynamics, supply chain and production capacity, and regulatory and policy frameworks.

It charts the progress made in research and innovation, investment, regulation, and market adoption, while remaining attentive to the cultural, economic, and equity dimensions that will ultimately determine whether this transition is both effective and just.

Resources

There are many resources out there that can directly benefit your ability to deliver more work for farmed animals in Asia. AfA has compiled a collection of resource particular to this area of the movement, please peruse it below. These range from information on cage-free campaigns to funding bodies in the farmed animal movement.

Appeals

Our movement is stronger together. If your organization wishes to raise an appeal about improving the lives of farmed animals in Asia, it may be more impactful if sent as an AfA appeal. Typically any one of our appeal letters have around 200 signatory organisations, and this lets decision makers know that the entire animal welfare lobby is watching.

FAC Subgroups

FAC is a member-driven coalition. As we start discussions with our growing network, we will identify shared challenges and create opportunities to discuss solutions and provide support. Through the development of sub-working groups, we will bring together people in FAC and associated organizations on shared issues.

Our FAC coordinators facilitate quarterly meetings so that our members can discuss and share their work. Our coordinators can then document what has been learned and shared in these meetings. We can then maintain momentum on issues and encourage the next steps- keeping an eye on the process and taking away the work from already stretched organizations.

Who we are

Alternative Protein Subgroup is a group of nominated individuals from Asia NGOs/CSOs doing Farm Animal Advocacy program in Asia.

We recognize that animal alternatives are part of the solution to ending the suffering of animals in factory farms and transforming the global consumption into one that is more healthy and humane.

Our vision

To build a consensus on the reduction and replacement of animal products in Asia.

Our mission

To unite those who advocate for and promote animal alternatives with a special focus on alternative protein (Alt. Protein) through direct engagement and communications, and building a joint movement for change.
To promote innovative food production of plant-based meat, cultured meat or protein from fermentation that replace the consumption of conventional meat from intensively farmed animals.
Promotion of traditional plant-based high protein products.

Who we are

We are a collective of regional animal protection organizations, advocates, and campaigners united by a shared commitment to ending the live animal export trade & for sacrifices in Asia and globally. Our members bring together frontline investigative expertise, policy knowledge, legal acumen, and grassroots campaigning power from across the continent.

Our vision

A world in which the live export of animals for slaughter is replaced by trading systems that respect animal welfare, support local economies and align with global standards for humane and ethical food production.

We envision an Asia, where governments, industries, and communities have moved beyond live animal export as a trade practice, and where the welfare of every animal in transition is protected by law and in practice.

Our mission

The FAC Ban Live Exports Subgroup exists to coordinate, amplify, and accelerate regional advocacy efforts to end the live export of animals across Asia and to influence the global trade policies that perpetuate this suffering. We aim to:

Build a regional network of organizations and advocates focused on banning live animal export in Asia
Conduct and support investigations/researches that expose the realities of live export trade routes and conditions affecting Asia
Engage governments and policymakers across Asia and exporting countries to advocate for legislative bans and stronger import regulations
Support member organizations with research, campaign resources, legal tools, and communication strategies
Amplify the collective voice of the animal protection movement on live export at regional and international forums
Collaborate with global partners to apply pressure on the countries, corporations, and trade bodies driving the live export industry

Who we are

We are a group of nominated individuals from Asia NGOs/CSOs doing Farmed Animal Welfare programs in Asia.

We recognize that millions of animals are suffering in confinement, inhumane slaughtering from the current animal agriculture in Asia, and institutional changes that can influence the life of millions of animals in meat supply chains could be achieved by engaging corporations in our regions.

Our vision

The AfA members unite our energy and resources to eliminate caged confinement and inhumane slaughtering and stunning methods from the current animal agriculture in Asia and work with impactful corporations in our regions to bring institutional changes that greatly influence the animal meat supply chains.

The FAC Corporate Outreach subgroup will engage with the target companies.

The FAC Corporate Outreach subgroup will obtain new cage-free procurement policies in 5 years (by 2028 - TBD).

ASIA FARM ANIMAL DAY

FAC REGIONAL EVENTS

Asia Farm Animal Day (AFAD), celebrated annually on October 10, is a day dedicated to raising awareness about the protection of farmed animals across Asia. AFAD highlights the efforts of advocates and organizations working to improve the welfare of farmed animals in the region and encourages the public to learn about and support these important initiatives.

Whether online or in person, AFAD has consistently delivered powerful programs that connect advocates, spark innovative ideas, inspire action, and foster meaningful change for farmed animal advocacy in Asia. From insightful virtual sessions to hands-on physical events, every initiative has left a lasting mark.

In 2025, AFAD returns to its roots as an online activity, coordinated by the Asia for Animals Coalition’s (AfA) Farm Animal Coalition (FAC). This year, in order to debunk myths and share the plight of farmed animals, we will be sharing fact vs myths posts about farmed animals, and we encourage everyone to share these and share their own too!

Evolution of AFAD

Launched by Asia for Animals’ Farm Animal Coalition (FAC) in 2020, the aim of AFAD is to offer a real-world platform for networking, forming friendships, collaboration and unity across the movement. Over the years, the initiative has seen support from hundreds of organizations and advocates in the continent and has become a much celebrated gathering of organizations, working on behalf of Asia’s farmed animals. It is now a day during which both NGOs and the public can take part in and promote awareness-raising and educational activities that focus on the sentience, wonder, and inherent value of farmed animals and how to improve their welfare across Asia
