Transforming the Future:
System Change for Animals
Across Asia, animal protection efforts have advanced significantly through local advocacy, institutional reform, and cross-sector partnerships. The Asia for Animals Conference Seoul 2027 will build on these achievements by focusing on system-level solutions.
The theme “Transforming the Future: System Change for Animals” centers on addressing the legal, policy, and societal frameworks that drive long-term outcomes for animals. Rather than focusing solely on immediate intervention, the conference will explore ways to formally integrate animal interests into public policy and decision-making processes.
AfA Seoul 2027 serves as a strategic forum for regional advocates, researchers, and decision-makers to share insights, address common challenges, and develop scalable strategies for sustainable, system-wide progress.

Since the Asia for Animals Coalition held its inaugural conference in 2001, the animal welfare movement across Asia has steadily expanded over the past twenty-six years. We are honored to host the 14th biennial conference in Seoul in September 2027.
South Korea has experienced rapid advances in social awareness and institutional frameworks surrounding animal protection. We look forward to sharing Korea’s journey while exchanging diverse insights and solutions with leaders from around the globe.
AfA Seoul 2027 will bring together over 1,000 participants from more than 50 nations across five days, serving as an international platform for collaboration focused on systemic reform for animals.
Lasting impact requires collective action. Real societal transformation happens when advocates, institutions, and corporations who share a vision for a better future unite. Together, we can turn the discussions started at this conference into lasting structural change. We warmly invite your participation and partnership in this vital endeavor.
Meet the Co-Hosts
Animal Welfare Advocacy, Research and Education (AWARE)
Founded in 2017, Animal Welfare Advocacy, Research and Education (AWARE) is a South Korea-based non-profit organization dedicated to advancing animal welfare policy through research, advocacy, and legislative engagement. AWARE works across a wide range of issues affecting farmed animals, companion animals, captive wildlife, and animals used in research.
AWARE’s mission is to bridge rigorous research and public policy to strengthen the legal and institutional protection of animals. It places particular emphasis on animals and welfare issues that remain overlooked or inadequately addressed by existing laws and policies, bringing these issues into public and policy discussions and turning them into concrete agendas for change.
Through evidence-based research, policy development, and sustained engagement with legislative and government processes, AWARE works to translate knowledge into lasting systemic change and build stronger institutional frameworks for animal protection in South Korea.
Korean Animal Welfare Association (KAWA) 동물자유연대
Founded in 2000, the Korean Animal Welfare Association (KAWA) is a non-profit organization working to improve animal rights and welfare. For more than 25 years, KAWA has driven improvements to laws and policies across a wide range of areas, including companion animals, farm animals, animals on display, captive wildlife, and animals used in experiments.
KAWA's key activities include the rescue of animals in crisis, policy and institutional reform, and citizen engagement campaigns to raise animal welfare standards. By linking field-based animal protection work with legislative strategy, and collaborating with companies, government agencies, and academic institutions, KAWA is expanding the foundation for animal welfare research and education.
Ultimately, KAWA strives to ensure that all animals under human care are treated humanely, and to reduce the number and range of species exploited or displaced by human activity, working toward a world in which humans and animals achieve ecological and ethical harmony.
