A practical commitment to strengthen preparedness across Asia
Animal Protection Organizations (APOs) across Asia play a vital role in protecting animals during disasters and emergencies. However, preparing for and responding to crises can be challenging while managing day-to-day operations.
The DRC Pledge, led by the Asia for Animals (AfA) Disaster Response Coalition, is a simple three-phase commitment framework that helps organizations strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience over time through structured assessment, planning, and action.
THREE PHASES
The participating organization will progress through three pledge phases at their own pace:
Complete risk assessment using the DRC Risk Assessment Guide.
Step 1
Assess Risks
Step 2

Strategize & Plan
Identify at least three realistically actionable risk reduction strategies with available resources.
Step 3

Implement & Practice
Gradually add small, achievable preparedness measures into daily operations over time.
WHY THIS MATTERS
No organization is immune to disasters
Whether you:
-
Care for animals directly through a shelter, sanctuary, rescue centre, or wildlife rehabilitation facility.
-
Work with animals in communities through outreach, veterinary, or street animal programs.
-
Operate as an office-based advocacy, policy, education, or campaigning organization.
Disasters can disrupt operations, affect staff and volunteers, and impact the animals and communities you serve. The DRC Pledge is not only about responding to emergencies — it is about being prepared before they happen. It supports organizations to take practical and realistic steps to strengthen preparedness over time.
MORE THAN A PLEDGE
Participants will receive continuous support from AfA DRC as well as resources, including:
