Macaques used in traditional medicine

The use of macaque parts in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is not as well-known as the use of other, more endangered animals such as tigers or pangolins. However, references to the use of monkey (sometimes macaques are specified) bone, bezoar and liver appear in several overviews of the trade in wildlife for TCM.  There is not always a clear distinction between food and medicine in TCM; monkey meat itself is sometimes considered to be medicinal (see Market for meat and body parts)
