Macaque coalition ~ home page
Welcome to the Asia for Animals Coalition macaque group. Please explore the following links to find out more.
Initiated in 2020, the Asia for Animals (AfA) Coalition macaque group aims to collate information on the many welfare issues frequently faced by macaques, to share solutions and strategies for reducing their suffering, and to promote peaceful, respectful coexistence.
Members of the AfA Coalition network have observed a particularly high volume of welfare issues involving macaques, whether related to conflict with human populations, the pet trade, circus-like performances or otherwise. Because of the perception that they are common, or perhaps even too abundant, macaques sometimes do not seem to benefit from legal protection even when it is officially in place. Across Asia, groups and individuals are trying to address such situations, with mixed success.
The AfA Coalition macaque group will serve as a platform for information sharing, and will highlight projects and approaches that have worked - or if not, some insight on why that might be. Our objective is to enable projects, groups or individuals tackling these issues make important contacts and to pinpoint their own solutions to the multi-faceted issues macaques face in today's world.
This group is in the developmental stages and so constructive feedback is welcome. Please send it to afacoalition@gmail.com
